Wooden structure buildings account for less than two per thousand in China.
"Across all major cities in China, there are merely concrete and steel structures forming a 'forest'. The proportion of wooden buildings in domestic architecture is less than two per thousand." Zhu Guangqian, the chief expert of the China Timber and Wood Products Circulation Association, stated that wooden buildings account for 90% in North America, over 50% in Japan, Europe, and Australia. Currently, the proportion in China is not high. With the deep-rooted concepts of ecological protection and green development, new types of wooden buildings are quietly emerging. In the next 5 to 10 years, this will become a blue ocean market worth hundreds of billions of yuan.
Zhu Guangqian said that compared with steel, cement, and plastic, wood is a green building material that is renewable, reusable, and biodegradable. Its heat insulation performance is 15 times that of concrete and 400 times that of steel. Moreover, during the construction process of the house, there is no dust, and the construction waste can be decomposed. After dismantling, it can also be reused, and the pollution it causes is the least among the currently available building materials.
In February this year, the National Development and Reform Commission, in conjunction with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, issued a notice, requiring the vigorous development of steel and wood structures in areas prone to earthquakes.
Internationally, the production technology of wooden structures is highly mature. In Japan, a 200-square-meter wooden structure can be fully assembled in just one day. The building material is flame-retardant synthetic wood, which won't catch fire even at a temperature of 1500 degrees Celsius.
It is necessary to attach importance to the "second forest" resources.
Will the development of wooden structures damage forests? Zhu Guangqian believes that wood is a renewable resource and proper utilization can actually contribute to forest protection.
The area of timber used in domestic artificial forests is increasing at an annual rate of 5 million hectares, with an annual increase of 25 million cubic meters of wood, which is roughly equivalent to the increase in consumption. "We should pay attention to the 'second forest' resources - straw, vine materials and herbaceous plants. These are all materials that can be used for biomass power generation. They must be effectively utilized," said Qin Yuan, the general manager of Sunlight Kaidi New Energy Group Intelligent Logistics Co., Ltd. As a leading enterprise in domestic biomass power generation, Sunlight Kaidi has built and successfully operated 37 biomass power plants, and the planned and under-construction power plants have a total installed capacity of over 2340 megawatts. Clean and environmentally friendly biomass energy is bound to replace fossil energy.
